Biglees downhill and Goldenberry 11km 290m climb. This route needs downhill skills

 

Leave the station car park turning right along Cubrieshaw St, with the garage on your left.
Go right at Gateside St out of the town going straight on (left) at the island and continue along the road to North Kilruskin farm. Turn to the right off the main road. As the road behind the farm buildings bends right leave it turning and climbing a little slope onto the quarry road. climb all the way up the quarry road eventually going around the east side above the quarry to a bare open area. Climb the fence by a stile and cycle around the north side of a lochan following a sheep track The sheep track goes through the heather take the second fork through a little dip, a short climb then descend to the top, south edge of the line of trees. Go through the metal gate and follow the tree line down to Glenburn at MR125523. Cross the burn and enjoy the setting, there are a number of rough ramps and steep slopes to play about in before climbing up to the metal gate on the west side. Cross the gate and the fence on the left into a rough area where there is a downhill close to the wall. Go down this to a better track leading down then up to Biglees. Fork left after Biglees to the rough quarry track downhill to the road. Go right out to the main road right again 1km to the roundabout, leave the roundabout down the blocked exit which joins the Sustrans cycle route.

The Sustrans track goes through Hunterston estate passing the old Castle on route. 300m past the castle go right, at the next track crossing go straight ahead, climb bending left, ignore the rough track forking left and at the top of the next rise with a line of trees on the left go through a gate off the road onto a grassy track. Climb this obvious steep track to the top of the hill and admire the fabulous view at the trig point. Go through the gate and descend by the rough track from the mast down to Ardneil. Go straight over the road to the beach to return along the beach track or by the B7048.

At the end of the beach track climb away from the beach passing the golf course turn right at the main road and next left. Go to the top of this road to its end go left 20m along a footpath then right over a rough area leading to the Glen path turn left through the Glen back to the start.
