Map - landranger 70
Location
A rough tarmac road at the railway bridge
before Patna on the A713 Ayr to
Dalmellington road gives access to the area
(GR 418 110).
Distance
9km, 200m climb, valley views.

Interest - Lethanhill memorial, waterside
industrial heritage.
Leave the car and ascend toward the group of
trees near the memorial. At the west corner of
the trees go through the gate heading SE
beside the plantation.
The track is along old mine working rail lines
and is easy going.
After about 3km descend from the mine
workings to a ruin (Burnhead).
Behind the ruin locate the faint track that
crosses the burn and goes down hill shown on
the map a footpath.
There is an old bridge over the burn which is
now un-useable. Follow the track down hill to
the open old spoil heap, making your way
across it to the singposted track.
Stay above Waterside on the higher track until
the old works managers house. Descend
through rhododendrons to the old track just
below the house. Follow this pleasantly along
the side of the hill 3 km to the road up to
lethanhill. Earlier tracks lead back up steeply to
near the start and can be followed if desired.
