Windfarm

Windfarm and Knockewart hill

Distance 9km climb 200m graded hard and needs navigation skills and is indicated by blue squares on the map east of the town.

Leave the station car park at the south corner up a set of steps, go left steeply uphill passing restored Law castle, continue round the farm then keep right on the rough tarmac road which climbs along the front (west side) of Law hill with great views over the town and Clyde Estuary.
The road levels out, go straight ahead and at a sharp left bend go straight on through a gate along the edge of a field following the line of trees.
in 300m cross a stile and burn an set off diagonally across the field along a sheep track, at the ruin go left to a gate tthrough the gate and up hill to the nearest windmill.
The windmills are huge the view is marvelous, follow the rough road right keeping left, climbing steeply to a gate, through the gate go left, following the road to the radio mast, from here the going is over moorland for about a kilometre.
From the radio mast the now grassy track goes to the right of the fort hill, crosses moorland 200m to a little ridge, follow the ridge left then head across rough ground with no track to a scattered group of a few trees on the east side of a flat boggy area.
At the west corner of the trees is a little gate, go through this and follow the line of the wall north to the tarmac road up Knockewart in half a kilometre.
Turn left uphill to the summit mast then north west to the secondary summit and down to the good track on the east side of Blackshaw hill.
Follow this track west along the south side of Blackshaw hill through several gates on the obvious track, with great views, then along the north side of Law hill and down to the station car park.
